There are 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 JD notes (bills) used, and you will usually see prices written as 4.750. There also different coins from: 5, 10, 25, and 50 piasters. It is useful to carry some coins and low denominations.
In terms of credit cards American Express, Visa, Diners Club and MasterCard are accepted in hotels, restaurants and larger shops. ATMs can be found in most of the larger towns and throughout Amman. Just do not forget your PIN and to call your bank!
Regarding currency restrictions, the equivalent of up to15.000 JD may be imported as cash in foreign currency or Jordanian Dinar. A customs declaration is necessary for larger amounts.
Currency can be exchanged at major banks, local exchange houses and at most hotels. Changing money with an individual in the street is best to be avoided. The Jordanian Central Bank sets exchange rates daily.
Tipping at restaurants or tipping cab drivers is not expected during your time here. However, if you have a particularly great experience, it is highly suggested to tip based on your experience.
